Point Bob on Canada Day

What a blast! Lots of big kids and little kids having way too much fun camping on Canada Day at beautiful Lighthouse Park in Point Roberts. Many thanks to Ben and Lynne VanBuskirk for their hospitality! Hands across the border baby!

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO EVERYONE!

I just came from a Canada Day BBQ at a close friend of mine who is celebrating his first year as a Canadian citizen. He is proud to be a Canadian as we all are. We are unique, proud, considerate, and somewhat shy at blowing our horns. Coming back from a trip to Washington DC some time ago I couldn't help but be amazed at how proud Americans are and how amazing it is to see their monuments to Presidents - Jefferson, Lincoln, the Washington Monument and more. Perhaps it is time that we start blowing our own horns and truly show that we are proud. Maybe even brag a bit at who we are. I AM CANADIAN!!

The "L-Word" TV Series Films in T-Town

If you happened to be in the town core this afternoon (June 16) you would have noticed a fair amount of commotion in front of Petra's and beside South Delta Motors. No it wasn't Customer Apprecation Day coming a couple days earlier, it was the filming of a few scenes for the TV series called "The L Word". Check out the Image Gallery PIX:City Views for a bunch more pictures.

The scene this photographer witnessed comprised of an altercation of words between some teenagers and then a rather harsh physical man-handling of a teenage girl with all the appropriate swearing. Very interesting.

HEALTH CARE: Costs are all relative?

I had lunch earlier this week with a new Canadian immigrant from Germany and among our many discussion topics was Health Care. In Germany, he claimed (and I think I remembered correctly) that Health Care monthly costs were in the range of $300-500. He said that the cost was high and contentious but that there were no waiting lists. Of course this is just one person's opinion so he may have been completely incorrect but it did make me think hard about what we pay and the whole issue of waiting lists. I know that our family would gladly pay double our $108 monthly family costs to have waiting lists removed or dramatically reduced.
