I attended the "land swap" presentation at council chambers last night. I did because I was interested to hear the outcome of a promise the municiplity made to some user groups.
In particular I wanted to know if the Masters and mixed slo-pitch organizations were going to be able to play in a full length left field at the new diamond in Brandrith Park. They had always suggested that a "deal would be done" with the district for encroaching on or swapping lands that would make the field usable for these groups.
Additionally, I was interested in seeing if the Municiplaity would be able to help the district achieve some of its goals as they pertain to bucking the southward enrollment trend, or if the Municiplaity might see it proper to work toward introducing what at first blush would seem an interesting community enhancement.
I was astonished to see our Mayor cut the District spokesman Theresa Towwnsley off, and ask condescendingly if there was much more? The Mayor noted that Theresa had a few more pieces of paper in her hand and that "delegations" were usually given only ten minutes.
If you ask me, the School district is no ordinary "delegation". As a tax payer, I would hope that the District be considered as more of a community partner than a "delegation". The District and the Board were, in fact, invited to attend and they were given assurances that there would be time for some of the other representatives to speak.
In any case, the air in the room was thick with innappropriate tension which is really too bad.
