Need a Venue and Funding for your Next Community Meeting? Just ask Council

By Mike - Posted on 06 February 2007

It's good to know that you can ask your council for meeting space and if you are a little tight for cash, a "Facility grant".

I'm sure the dozens of local associations societies and user groups would receive this as welcome information...from council minutes....

Expansion (H.09a)
Correspondence from Liz Gough, Against Port Expansion (APE) Spokesperson dated January 25, 2007 regarding Invitation to a Meeting Against Port Expansion and Funding for the Meeting.
--                 Motion Endorsed
MOVED By Cllr. Engelland,
SECONDED By Cllr. Campbell, THAT a facility grant be approved for the “Against Port Expansion town hall meeting scheduled at the Ladner Community Centre on February 8, 2007, and
THAT the event be advertised on Delta's reader boards.

CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

Clearly the topic of Port Expansion is an important issue for Deltans.

The Municipality is conveying its support for APE because it realizes that Port Expansion will have negative effects for its citizens. There is nothing wrong with that.

Maybe the local sports groups who currently use school board facilities (and pay handsomely for them) could get a break from the municipality? Maybe a "Facility rental rebate grant"

The savings would certainly help offset constantly increasing registration fees. That might make the several thousand parents in South Delta happy.
