What is the most obvious thing that separates South Delta from North Delta?

Lots of people here want our plastic owls delivered to Prince Rupert so that when they are unloaded they can be driven to market so many hundreds of miles away.

These same people lament over the future of Killer Whales and how they may wash up on our shore if Port Development continues.

Turns out Whales are smarter than we thought. Their yearly trip down south to California has been extended because they are having so much fun and apparently enjoying lots to eat.

That doesn't paint a rosy picture of our salmon situation but it does mean that we can accept single bocce balls, boys ties and plastic owls here without killing Orcas.

That is a positive..isn't it?

So Single Bocci Ball Seeker, it seems that if we want the reality of shopping and living within our own community, without having to drive through the tunnel, burning up precious fossil fuel and clogging already congested roads, we need to support growth. You're correct in saying that with more people moving out than moving in local businesses will have even less consumers, and eventually be forced to close shop. Imagine the outcry if we had to go to Richmond to buy something as ordinary as a pair of good training shoes (think the Run Inn), a sheet of plywood (Home Building), or a pinata (Dollar Store), never mind something as exotic as a plastic owl. Let's be open to growth and see it in a positive way. I'm all for it.

Hi Frekles.

More people means more shops. Businesses have thresholds and ours is under the radar. Landlords need to make money too. There are more people moving out of tunnel town than there are moving in and our population is aging. Most people over fifty have no need for boys ties. (not that you can buy mens ties, or that I support the notion of ties period!)

As for Plastic Owls...the older demographic needs plastic teeth and there lots of guys selling those out here. Specialty shops will work if there are incentives for landlords to reduce rent. They will do that if they get the zoning to include residential density in their developments. Council approves zoning density and our council doesn't like growth.

So, until some attitudes change around here, we will have no way of stopping crows from eating our cheesies and waking us up at five in the god damn morning.

Pass on our site freckles....we need more input!

This poll spurred me into thinking again about the lack of shopping here in Tsawwassen. I like to shop locally, I just can't always find what I am looking for here. I despise the crowds and "big business" in Richmond, but sometimes all I'm looking for is a plastic owl and there is nary a one to be found here in Tsawwassen.
