Hoover Rants!!

By Mike - Posted on 02 October 2008

I guess Ted Murphy must be happy with the banter.

The goal of community commentators is get the community engaged and it appears I have accomplished that goal with my recent publication

First Ensley’s Rant and now the big man takes a run at me in his lame attempt to prop up public sentiment toward his new baby. Oct 1 Delta Optimist Who will be next? I have a pretty good idea and can hardly wait.

Greg Hoover does not get it. I respect Greg for the fine work he had done on his alternative plan for Gateway and the South Perimeter Road.

I have never had a bad word to say about Greg or Roger but their recent decisions to take me on personally will warrant what I have to say about them in the weeks leading up to the election here in my blog and elsewhere.

Greg’s unfortunately large ego has blocked his ability to see the changing political tides in Delta, South Delta in particular.

He has chosen to come across as a bombastic self-promoting blowhard rather than articulate precisely how he will engage these “new candidates” (forthcoming from the several groups of whiners that have formed the “Delta Now party I suppose).

Like a colicky child, Hoover rants and pontificates showing no evidence that he or Delta Now has a platform or a plan. Hoover assumes everyone thinks like him and his band of “self absorbed zealots” and that is unfortunate. He scornfully dismisses my opinion on the current political landscape and suggests that I do not know how politics or Government works. We will see about that the day after the election Greg.

Looking at Delta Now’s website gives you a pretty good idea of why there are many people (including or Mayor and two councilors) who are sick and tired of the same old shtick.

The image of a burning Bog is a dead giveaway as are the overly rhetorical descriptions of the perceived assaults on South Delta.

You simply have to look down the list on the website and see it is the same old stuff with no plan on how to negotiate or work with other agencies or Governments.

Politics through fear and loathing is extremely boring.

Can’t we strive to work toward working on positive community building exercises? Keeping our schools open and viable, improving transit and housing options, building recreation opportunities for our youth are just a few of the things that come to mind.

This ranting thing is wearing very thin amongst the populace and there is no appetite for it except from the zealots and malcontents amongst mainstream Deltans.

I was genuinely interested in seeing what Delta Now had to offer. I was naïve to think that maybe it could be a slightly more centre version of Tri-Delta which could be appealing. From what I have seen so far it would seem it is the same old back room crew with a couple of new acronyms thrown in for good measure.
