Andres Duany Lecture

By Mike - Posted on 17 January 2008

Century Group sponsored a lecture for the Simon Fraser University City Program featuring world renowned planner and architect Andres Duany.

Duany, co-founder of the New Urbanist Movement did not disappoint. He surprisingly lashed out at the sprawl in Metro Vancouver and he noted that he could only see "one example of good architecture in every 400 homes."

He also took a poke at environmentalists and their contribution to communities falling in to "suicide mode" as the result of preventing growth and maturity of communities and being happy when they see no growth. He suggested that they should apply and adapt their expertise in matters relating to nature to integrating Human participation within it.

Duany has been commissioned to lead a week long "Southlands Design Charrette" this coming May. To learn more about his work take a peek at the DPZ Website
