Happy Food Revolution Day!!!!

By BYCOOP admin - Posted on 20 May 2016

It was quite the week in the Delta School District. The kids really enjoy eating the fruits and vegetables of their labor!

Thanks to Dan Kirkgard for finding some help on the pickling front!

If there is anyone out there that would like to help out on the pickling front please let me know. I am also looking for old family recipes to add to list of standby recipes.

I have found that I am just too busy in the summer to pickle as we go so I a pleased to announce that Project Pickle is close to rretaining the services of the "Pie Ladies", a South Delta institution who will be adding pickling to their repitoire.

Right down to the last morning...the young farmers harvested potatoes and carrots to take home for dinner tonight.

The children have planted hundreds of cucumber seedlings over the past couple of weeks. They have been encoraged to come to the farms over the summer break and have been allowed to pick one cucumber from their vine at the end of July. They are pretty excited about this!

There is a lot going on at school at the end of the year but we are trying our best to make sure that the hundreds of young farmers that are participating iin Project Pickle eat something from their farms before the end of the year.

We will be following his pattern over the next few weeks. The kids love the "tailgate lunches" and it is great to see them eating their veggies on a regular basis.

As it turned out, FRD fell on a pro-D day in the school district so we celebrated FR week instead. Lots of kids eating the food that they have grow. Very rewarding to see them enjoy it so much!
