Growing farmers

MIchael Ableman was a key advisor with the SCPT process. He is a recognized expert on framing food  issues particularly as they relate to the urban/rural edge

Under-utilized lands can be a great opportunity to grow where you would least expect it. Its amazing what an 4x8 raised bed can produce in a year. Not only great home grown food but home grown potential farmers too!

The BC Government intends to grow the agrifoods sector by close to 50% over the next 5 years.
We need programs in BC schools to build this growth. Horticulture curriculums and neighbourhood school farms such as the ones being developed in the Delta School District will certainly help educate potential agrifood employees.

If you haven't already, you need to get out to the UBC Farm to see how students and community work together in an advanced school farm neighbourhood.
