Big Composting Day at Hellings Elementary

Six classes and about 150 kids learned about composting today at Hellings Elementaruy school in North Delta. They have homework for the weekend to collect greens and browns to bury with some red wigglers next week. Fun had by all!

An opportunity has come up at Hellings to build a retaining wall at the front of the school to afford some sitting space for the kids. The plan is to build an herb garden  on the space.

I have to be careful when I say "straw" is a good brown ingredient for compost, because the other day, (again) one student hada couple of plastic straws in her brown lunch bag. My bad!
