"BATS" salad for lunch yesterday

Bacon, arugula, tomatoes and strawberries make up the "BATS" salad. Fifty kids at English Bluff elementary enjoyed the fruits (and vegetables) of their labour.

The saltiness of the bacon, the peppery spice of the arugula and the sweetness of the tomatoes and strawberries ensured that dressing of any kind was not needed.

The kids are'nt only learning about farming, they are learning about nutritional health, taste profiles and food preparation skills.

These important moments will be cherished and hopefully will encourage a continued interest in undertsnading food and its impact on our daily lives.

We will be doing the same thing at McCloskey elementary next week. We were talking about pizza for next session with the last of the Arugula.

It was great to see that almost all of he kids ate their salads. If they grow it they will eat it.
