Another neighbourhood school farm is on the go!

Not the greatest day to be shoveling dirt but the grade 5 and 6 learners at Beach Grove Elementary school didn't seem to mind! About 40 kids in all took part in framing three raised 4x8x1 garden beds at the front of the school which tells the neighbourhood WE FARM HERE!

Using school owned land assets to bring a horticultural curriculum to our neighbourhoods just makes sense. The kids will be participating in a composting unit for the next few weeks and are excited about planning and seeding right around the corner.

Building the beds required teamwork, math and lots of manual labour. Job will done kids!!

In a few short months the fruits of their labours will be delivered to dinner tables throughout the Beach Grove neighbourhood.

I'm happy to see that kids are learning about composting. It is a valuable and interesting process that helps kids understand larger aspects of farming and food.

Three exterior beds are in and two more will be added to indoor courtyard space in the next couple of days
