Community Blogs are Cool!
This town portal thing looks promising - it's very interesting to see people actively participating in debate over the multitude of issues that come up in our communities. The Delta Optimist letter sections are subject to page and filtering constraints and live only until the next recycling day.
How To Mistake a Tourist for a Homeless person???
It has taken me 9 months of working Gastown to be de-sensitized to the homeless people - the constant begging for cash, food, beer, whatever. I can now successfully walk unphased past people as they ask for help in their lives. My, what an achievement! I am saddened to think that someone who considers themself to be compassionate and caring has de-volved in this manner. John Prine has a great song called "Hello In There" about the street people and the homeless.

No more fast-bus from T-town direct to Van with new RAV line?
I keep hearing from fellow commuters on the 602 each morning that the new RAV line will be diverting existing 601-2-3-4 folks from there non-stop trip to downtown Van to a new Skytrain station in Richmond. Say it ain't so!! Do we take a trip that takes us 1.25 to 1.5 hours each day and add another 20-30 minutes on to it? (Yah, yah - I know, you folks from Langley and Abby don't have much sympathy with your daily treks.)
Has anyone else heard this? Can we not make a stand on this? Do we have a voice in this matter?
And yes I do love transit with all my heart but I can't bare the thought of veering into Richmond every day so that we can maximize ridership on a new RAV.
Soccer Politics
I heard recently that a local under 12 boys soccer team has been denied their request to be a Rep team for Tsawwassen. Apparently a program was being started by keen individuals to raise the level of play locally so that Tsawwassen boys (and girls) are able to play at a high level in their own home town. There is a great level of excitement about this plan that includes a three tiered strategy where all players can be presented with an environment that is challenging and creates growth. Unfortunately the governing bodies (not clear who these are) have decided that T-town does not warrant rep teams at both the Gold and the Silver levels. It means that the Silver team is destined to play at a House level rather than at a level that will be challenging and growth promoting. The process for going GOLD, as they call it, seems to be very unclear and appears again from the outside to have a large subjective component.
