What - no Olympic hockey coverage on the radio??
Astounding as it may seem - there is no radio coverage of the Olympics. Make that, the HOCKEY at the Olympics. I could care less about coverage of the luge but where the heck is the hockey!! We're all working and would love to listen to the game while at our desks.
Maybe Town Portal can take a feed from the TV and put it on the site somehow. Now wouldn't that create a ton of fuss!! And notoriety... and visits...
Are We Raising our Children as Wimps?
An interesting article came my way via www.reddit.com today and it connected a recurring theme in our social circle's discussions. The question: Are we raising a generation of wimps?

Fund Raiser Hell!
Who is feeling beseiged these days by the omni-present need to fund-raise or fund-donate?? Soccer trips, hockey trips, school band trips, school camping trips, school trips to Quebec to Paris to Montana to Los Angeles. Just lately the circle of parents of our sporting team all lamented that they were "fund-raised out". Isn't fund raising supposed to mean the funds come from someone other than the recipients or their parents? This can be from bottle drives, car washes, pub nights, soccer nights, yada yada yada. It seems that so much fundraising just comes from the parents directly... and maybe that's the way is really should be.
Rules for Blogging and other Blogging links
I did a search just now wondering if there were really any rules for blogging - I assumed there were but I've never looked before. So here's a bunch of links that might interest you, then again might not:
All that Jazz Comes to T-Town!
Wow, it was with great excitement that I stumbled upon the South Delta Jazz Festival happening this summer and with preliminary events happening as soon as June 10. Here's the link you can go to: http://www.southdeltajazzfestival.com
Turf Field and Library and Money
It was with great interest (really) that I watched last night's Delta Council Meeting. I was eager to hear the results of the open houses held in April and to hear council's responses and thoughts on the whole project. Here's some of the thoughts that came to mind (and do feel free to respond):
MUSIC DOWNLOAD: Fat Papa, "Copperhead Road", from their new album "Papa-palooza".
Local acoustic quartet, Fat Papa, offers its first free download from their popular new release, "Papa-palooza". Featuring the sounds of dobro, acoustic and bass, the Papas stylize the songs of Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, and more. It's eclectic, it's old time music with a new twist.
Congrats to Canadian Curling Gold Medalists
That is just so awesome about Brad Gushue's rink from NewFoundLand and New Brunswick. 10-4 over Finland in 8 ends!! There's a great article on the TSN Web Site that really brought a lump to my throat about his mother with cancer phoning him after the game.
Being a huge curling fan, this really makes up for the hockey disappointment. Is that 20 medals now? I remember back when Karen Magnusson (correct?) was the only medalist from Canada.
Hey Dog Walkers on 8A - Pickup Your Bags of Dog Crap!!
It was 645am, a beautiful morning, the air was fresh, a high overcast, people out for their morning walks, and grinders like me strolling to their bus stops to catch the 40-window coupe into town. As I approached my bus-stop I noticed a bunch of garbage surrounding the garbage can. "Maybe it just got blown out by a gust of wind. No one in T-town would just dump garbage at the foot of the garbage can.!" Or would they? Being energized by the morning and feeling like I would be a good community citizen, I reached down and picked up the first of many white plastic garbage bags with a small amount of "garbage" in them and was about to drop it in the can when I recognized the content. It was dog crap!! In fact, there were 4 bags of it strewn at the foot of the garbase can! It seems SEVERAL folks just dropped their crap bags. What's with that???!! The "droppers" must be adults as I just couldn't see kids getting up at 6:00 in the morning to walk their dogs, let alone pick up their dog's crap, maybe take their crap home with them, etc. Nor do I think that someone reached into the garbage can, sifted through the resident garbage to find the bags that contained dog crap and then placed them at the foot of the can. No, this was plain and simple disrespect from the dog walkers on 8A and I have to believe that these are mature, respected (I thought), considerate, tax paying, co-habitators of our community. Shame on you all. And oh yes, I live on 8A and affectionately call my residence "The House at Poo Corner" - yup, at my corner they don't even PICK it up. Did I say "Shame on you all!".
